Photos: Shaun Bloodworth Mary Anne Hobbs is hands down one of the most important and beloved people we have been blessed to know in this musical adventure we are on. She has been the champion of Flying Lotus, and Brainfeeder et al, via her radio show on BBC Radio 1, since the very beginning. We consider Mary Anne our greatest ally, as she has almost single-handedly revealed this thriving musical scene occurring in Los Angeles to the rest of the world. Though her decision to leave the BBC did come as a surprise to us, we are confident and supportive in her movement forward in this world of fresh possibilities. Here is her statement on the departure from BBC: LEAVING THE BBC… “Yesterday i resigned from BBC Radio1, after an amazing multi-dimensional 14 year career. The great freedoms the BBC have given in me as a broadcaster, have allowed me to help break so many confrontational artists as diverse as Slipknot and Skream, and of course, the whole genre of Dubstep in recent times. My current Experimental show is in peak condition, it’s never been stronger. And although it’s a very emotional decision to leave the show that I love so much, it’s also an optimum moment to bow out, at the very top of my game. My work for Radio1 on the Breezeblock, Rock Show, many fascinating documentaries about everything from David Bowie to Dubstep, on daytime, at festivals and award ceremonies, has been exceptionally rewarding. These have been glory days not just for me, but for all the artists who have shared my BBC platform, and of course, the listeners everywhere from Beijing to Berlin, Baltimore to Blackpool, who shared a great passion for future sound. I will continue to DJ live, work in film, and curate at Sonar festival in Barcelona. I have also accepted a new job mentoring and teaching students at the University of Sheffield’s Union Of Students radio station, TV station and the newspaper that operate out of their superb Forge Media Hub, which presents me with a really exciting new challenge.” My last show on BBC Radio1 will be broadcast:

Minds Locked Together (Trailer) from BRAINFEEDER on Vimeo. MINDS LOCKED TOGETHER – A Film By SHAUN BLOODWORTH The Film really is a document of life in Sheffield, based around the Electronic music scene, but its also about the transformation of an empty venue , into a place to experience a specific musical event. Of course it features Performers but this is a celebration of the unsung heroes , the Promotors and paying Audience. There’s always been an extremely vibrant and independent spirit in the City regarding music, with a culture of ‘ well if they dont cater for me i’ll start my own night ‘ – and I’ve wanted to record that for a while now. The Title ‘Minds Locked Together ‘ is a phrase from a Venetian Snares track that i heard in Flying Lotus’s set about a year ago. It started out as a commission from MaryAnne Hobbs, to produce visuals for her Sonar Stage set, in June this year. I hadn’t a clue what i was going to do at that time, but knew Roska had asked GiveUpArt to do a graphic visual and Flying Lotus had Strangeloop to do a multi layered animation – well i couldnt compete with those, so i decided to do something with live footage and it developed from there. Because im essentially a stills Photographer, the film has been shot in a very similar way to a picture story with the same pace and rhythm, and its styled as close to my stills work as I could get. It was filmed over a loose two month period , taking in venues from around the city , from organised Club Nights to Underground Raves, and I’ve re edited it together with Humanstudio and a mixed soundtrack by Sheffield producer and DJ Grievous Angel.
